It’s an exciting time to join APM Terminals – we’re starting to execute on our 5-year strategy in the Modernization Program in order to modernize and upgrade of our current operations, improve safety and business results by rolling out market leading solutions for our operational equipment and processes. One part of the strategy is to deploy currently available mature products/solutions into our operating terminals globally. We are building the Mature Product Deployment Team which will concentrate on deploying 2 products: Terminal Gate Automation and Crane Operator Support (such as crane OCR, Truck Alignment…).
Working together with this highly skilled deployment team, it is your mission to ensure everything goes according to plan and without local business disruption by aligning global, cross-functional product definitions with terminal specific conditions, and by coaching and guiding the team in effectively overcoming any challenges whilst implementing the product(s) in the live terminal operations.
Base station for the role can be any location of Middle East & Asia – relocation not required; In addition, the Mature Product Deployment team will be working on projects globally, moving from terminal to terminal to deploy these solutions, and the contractual base location can be flexible and discussed during the selection process.

Key responsibilities:-
As Engineer, you are accountable for providing technical automation expertise. You act as the main technical automation expert within the deployment team to effectively implement the given product(s) in the live terminal operations according to plan and without local business disruption. You support the team and Deployment Lead(s) in resolving any related challenges on a day-to-day basis.
You drive the end-to-end onsite technical automation product deployment process: from site preparation to installation and commissioning, and from integration and live equipment testing to go-live support. You document, deploy and support the integration of automation products with other products, assets and systems and you maintain a consistent deployment approach across all relevant sites reporting any related challenges to Deployment Lead(s).
Reporting to the Deployment Lead(s), you offer support in the deployment process from roadmap creation to go-live and finally stable operations, defining deployment specific performance criteria
and ongoing feedback related to deployment status and technical challenges/issues. You work closely with the Deployment Lead(s) to continuously improve ongoing work and deployment approach.
You collect and review all relevant technical documentation from the terminal/suppliers and follow up on or request for improvements as needed. You ensure that the technical documentation is updated and available for all stakeholders. You oversee technical site works conducted by suppliers and you provide support if and as needed in consultation with the Deployment Lead.
Other account abilities entail:-
- Drive the product discovery process from developing a profound understanding of customer needs to bringing the product into life
- Provide regular demonstrations of the products to Deployment Lead(s) and other stakeholders
- Work closely with Ops and QA reps within the deployment team to integrate technical deliverables with Ops (e.g. use cases) and QA (e.g. testing process and tools) as well as with the global product team to ensure product integrity
- Be a part of defining and relevant testing milestones and aligning on the outcomes
- Contribute to local product adoption by supporting capability building/knowledge transfer to terminal staff as part of the deployment
- Provide the first line of support for the given deployment at the terminal(s) until go-live and remain involved until Ops stability
- Support with on boarding and training of newcomers to the team
- Continuously monitor and report on all deployment related risks and opportunities to Deployment Lead(s)

We are looking for
We are open minded about your industry background but having automation experience in working within transport, logistics and distribution centers or port/container terminals/equipment is an advantage.
You have professional expertise and deep knowledge in deploying industrial automation solutions involving hands-on control systems and instrumentation in the field. You have the ability to design and implement operational technology infrastructure for automation systems and knowledge of end-to-end automation solution control: from strategy and procedure development to testing, implementation and integration.
Proven technical expertise in automation, industrial production controls and related processes, deep knowledge and experience in modeling and simulation (incl. loop tieback and first principle models and Virtual Terminal) and methodological knowhow to create iterative design, development and testing cycles (from end-to-end throughout the deployment), are key to be successful in this role.
Furthermore, you have a can-do mentality, and you are able to solve complex problems on a daily basis and in a structured manner by generating, evaluating and implementing solutions.
