De Montfort University (DMU) has a compelling and ambitious global agenda with a sharp focus on delivering quality teaching and learning, and a campus-wide focus on providing a high-quality student experience. Faculty/ Directorate Mechanical Engineering program is home to a diverse range of modules across specialist areas, taught by experienced academics in professional facilities equipped with cutting-edge technology.
The Role The purpose of the role is to provide a full technical support service to students and staff in the relevant subject area to mechanical and electronics, including training, practical assistance and advice on the use of equipment and techniques required in Mechanical Engineering program. Senior Technician’s also provide supervision of student in the absence of academic staff. This includes training, practical assistance and advice in the use of specialist equipment, techniques and computer software in designated rooms and laboratories of mechanical and electrical engineering. As well as having expert knowledge and experience relevant to the areas of responsibility, all technical support staff are expected to adopt a proactive role in keeping up-to-date with new developments as appropriate to their role. The Person You will have either Vocational or equivalent qualification in your area of expertise, in addition, our Senior Technician roles, will also have a relevant professional qualification in one of the following areas:
• Design Skilled in various aspects of Engineering design with expertise in CAD/CAM software and use/trouble shooting 3D printers.
• Mechanical Engineering: machining, fabrication and welding Hands-on skills in all mechanical engineering equipment, as well as the ability to deploy a wide range of skills and knowledge to deal with student projects and assessments.
• Electronic
1. Able to simulate and test electronics circuits, assemble and trouble shoot circuits.
2. Automation software and coding using various programming techniques.
3. Robotics & mechatronics integration & testing with additive manufacturing techniques. The successful candidate will have previous experience of providing face to face student interaction in a higher education context, experience of using a wide variety of specialist equipment relevant to your area of expertise, working in a team and have the ability to manage time effectively and prioritise tasks and goals. You will also have knowledge of Health and Safety requirements pertaining to teaching environments. Candidate is also expected to have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
