Job Title :Inclusion and Well being Champion

Full Job Description :- 

Scholars International Academy, a British curriculum school, is currently looking to hire a native english speaking Inclusion and Well being Champion for the academic year 2021-2022. The candidates must hold Degree in Special Education Needs from an accredited university and have at least 2 years of experience teaching and coordinating in the relevant subject in a UK National Curriculum school in England / Ireland.

Job Purpose :- 

Leading activities relating to those students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (Students of determination) and the Well Being of the SIA community, to include:

  • To be accountable for securing the highest standards of SEND pupil achievement and progress, through monitoring, evaluating and setting targets for improvement.
  • To lead, develop and enhance the teaching practice of others with SEND and EAL children by evaluating, supporting, guiding and target setting.
  • To be accountable for the strategic leadership and management of SEND and EAL, developing and implementing plans, policies, targets and practices within the context of the school’s aims and policies.
  • To develop a provision of targeted support and more specific support as some students will benefit from small – group and specific intervention.
  • Liaison with Senior Leadership Team concerning SEND and EAL issues and timetabling/hours of SEND staff.

MAIN (CORE) DUTIES:-

Special Educational Needs

  • To promote the general progress and well being of children with SEND or EAL delays.
  • To assess and identify children to determine the nature of their needs, and to plan for their progress by interpreting supporting documents, listening to the child, their family and the class teacher.
  • Records of children with SEND and EAL should be kept up to date with relevant background information added.
  • A child does not have need to have a plan or record of need to be supported by the SENDCo.
  • To advise teachers on their organisation of regular review meetings with parents in accordance with the UAE Agenda, SPEA guidelines and the SEND Code of Practice.
  • To review the SEND and EAL policy (Students of Determination) with regard to the Code of Practise
  • To co-ordinate the implementation of the school SEND policy.
  • To work in partnership with the class teacher and teaching assistant to establish consistent programmes of work for children with special needs.
  • To advise/devise on individual provision for children on the SEND register.
  • To meet regularly with teachers and teaching assistants at which learning programmes are reviewed and IEPs are updated/developed.
  • To keep and review on a termly basis the school register of children with special needs.
  • Provide support for colleagues and arrange CPD where appropriate.
  • Help to develop assessment and recording techniques, and collect examples of SEN pupils’ work to use as a basis for moderated assessment.
  • Recommend the purchase of appropriate resources for the teaching of children with special educational needs
  • Keep updated on policy and practice.
  • Complete a range of case studies each year
  • Maintain a list of interventions, summaries their purposes, who they are for, how often there success is monitored, and the number of students who have progressed because of them. Consider what has been done if there has been no progress for a particular child and make relevant changes to the approach with the child.
  • Monitor interventions and the impact they are having for each child.
  • To monitor and review the work of the SEND teachers.
  • To liaise with the SEND teachers on a regular basis to ensure that teaching programmes are on-going and to discuss ideas which can be implemented in individual education plans.

Inclusion:-

  • Monitor practice to ensure that equality of opportunity and provision is afforded to all vulnerable groups, e.g. EAL
  • Monitor progress of vulnerable children and groups
  • Liaise with external support agencies as appropriate
  • Prepare necessary documentation such as questionnaires for other professionals and external agencies e.g. Educational Psychologists,
  • Make strong professional relationships and links with multiple outside agencies such as Physiotherapists, Educational Psychologists and EAL specialists
  • Efficiently analyse data across the school for vulnerable groups, identifying development areas and correlations between data
  • To monitor and support the Gifted and Talented register and the provision for them

Pastoral Issues Affecting our Students of Determination:-

  • To plan and monitor opportunities for parents to feel supported, included and educated by inviting them in to attend meetings, coffee mornings and to invite specialists to give talks.
  • Provide information on training for parents and staff from outside agencies by promoting and advertising (via posters, and social media).
  • To plan, support and monitor the effectiveness of behavior plans in liaison with the class teacher, year leaders and AHoPs.
